The Catalan capital recorded a high pollution but does not exceed the alert level of legislation.
The Barcelona area continues to have high levels of pollution , but has not exceeded the alert threshold. The pollution remains stable with a slight downward trend. Only from Sunday and Monday are expected to improve the situation. The conurbation of Barcelona yesterday recorded peaks of pollution that duplicate and even triple the annual average nitrogen dioxide. The records were given in higher areas-Sant Gervasi GrĂ cia and Montcada i Reixac, where it measured more than 120 micrograms per m3 of nitrogen dioxide (NO2), where the maximum permissible annual average is 40 lg/m3. Still, was not exceeded the alert level (200 lg/m3 in an hour), although this did not prevent continuing to produce a broad social and political debate, focusing on the role to be played by private car and public transport to mitigate pollution.
The situation, however, is very different in Madrid, where alarms yes are fired, as some stations are exceeding the ceilings of NO2 pollution due to traffic. The legislation states that these caps can not exceed more than 18 hours per year, and some stations have already exceeded, although only 40 days have elapsed year. However, the Madrid government will not move tab. And so, Ecologists in Action will present today a complaint in court against the mayor Alberto Ruiz-Gallardon and community president, Esperanza Aguirre.
